- Henning Hraban Ramm
- CG Journal 2023, p. 7-11
- abstract: 17th ConTeXt meeting took place from 10 to 16 September 2023, again in Sibřina near Prague.
- An Editor for Pandoc Types
- Massimiliano Farinella
- CG Journal 2023, p. 12-17
- abstract: An editor for Pandoc abstract syntax tree (AST) lets you visually modify any document readable by Pandoc and export it into any output format it writes. Configurations make the editor customizable to different workflows.
- An Excursion through Pandoc Types
- Massimiliano Farinella
- CG Journal 2023, p. 18-27
- abstract: An excursion through the types that constitute Pandoc’s abstract syntax tree.
- HotMetal Type versus Computer Bits
- Willi Egger
- CG Journal 2023, p. 28-39
- abstract: Revisiting oldtime typesetting. Typesetting with movable type has a long history, which started in the western hemisphere with Gutenberg. Typesetting and typography evolved together. Typesetting changed from setting single characters to line typesetting to more modern equipment like photo typesetting and now electronic typesetting. Systems that can tackle “all” printing problems are often discussed now. However, it is important to realise that each development in typesetting has its own choices and compromises. When discussing today’s typesetting issues, it is useful to know about the earlier hotmetal typesetting. This article is an attempt to give an overview of hotmetal typesetting.

- abstract: A different number system. We are used to counting in the Arabic number system, which is base 10. However, we can use a number system with a different base. The native Alaskan nations, like Iñupiat, Inuit, and Yupik, for example, use base 20 to count. This article discusses the Iñupiaq number system.
- A Bit of Fun
- Willi Egger
- CG Journal 2023, p. 62-64
- abstract: Making ‘Playgrounds’. When the date for the ConTeXt meeting approached, Hans asked if I could prepare a base for a ‘playground’ for the “a bit of fun” section of the programme. This short article illustrates the journey to the ‘playgrounds’ distributed at the meeting.
- Gambling with Crypto
- Pablo Rodríguez
- CG Journal 2023, p. 65-76
- abstract: It isn’t just typesetting. Crypto... does not stand here for the fancy word of the moment (cryptocurrency), but only for cryptography. In these pages, I want to introduce some cryptographic features included in ConTeXt, which may help to secure some aspects of your documents. These cryptographic aids are hashes (for documents and texts) and digital signatures.
