PocketDiary, a Personal Organizer
Willi Egger
CG Journal 2022, p. 11-23
abstract: The first version of this calendar module for a personal organizer was created in 2010/2011. It is intended to prepare a personal pocket planner of eight small pages arranged on an A4 sheet. Although the sheet is printed only single sided, it can be folded into a booklet. Now that we use LuaMetaTeX with ConTeXt, the code needed an overhaul because it didn’t work anymore. Talks about calendars during the ConTeXt meeting 2021 were the reason for picking up this work. Beyond just making the module work again, it should also be capable of calculating moon phases and sun data. And indeed, the new version can now provide lunar days, pictograms of moon phases as well as sunrise and sunset times and the number of hours of light. – The collection of Lua functions can be considered a toolbox, and with a little bit of imagination it can be used to produce other lists where calendar information is required.
Detailed documentation is provided in the module files, including how to setup a production file. At the end of the article there are instructions on how to fold the booklet.

Calendars Using the PocketDiary Module
Willi Egger
CG Journal 2022, p. 24-62
abstract: Now that we have an entire machinery which can calculate calendars for creating PocketDiaries, we can also think about using it for other types of calendars. Here I present a photo calendar, a menu calendar, and a year calendar with sun and moon data as well as two types of year calendars with either a single page per day and the other with 2 pages for one week. The latter four examples are print-impositioned for books.

Date Driven Lists
Willi Egger
CG Journal 2022, p. 63-69
abstract: How can we produce a list with dates in a specific interval over a defined timeframe? The number of columns in the list and their headers should be configurable. The solution is to use the operating system’s timestamp. All calculations are performed as a time unit of seconds. This allows for arbitrary time intervals of the dates in the list. This small module is setup as a CLD (ConTeXt Lua Document).

MetaPost Pictures
Taco Hoekwater
CG Journal 2022, p. 79-93
abstract: This article is about MetaPost output. It produces graphics by means of picture variables that can contain a few different object types. The most important drawing object types can be colorized, so the first part of this article will talk about color data structures.

Digging Deep

CG Journal 2022, p. 94-96
abstract: The motto of the ConTeXt meeting was “digging deep”. When I registered for the meeting, I was curious as to what this could mean.

Calculating Covers

CG Journal 2022, p. 97-105
abstract: Every TeX user can typeset a book, but the cover might be a different story. We will learn a bit about dimensions and calculations as we calculate a cover.
